NESSI, (network European software and services initiative) was launch a few days ago in Brussels by a impressive group of European partners (Atos Origin; British Telecom; Engineering Ingegneria Informatica S.p.A.; IBM; HP; Nokia; ObjectWeb; SAP AG; Siemens; Software AG ; Telecom Italia S.p.A.; Telefónica; Thales).
A vision paper can be found online, with an interesting white paper, and a set of pdf presentations from some of the key promoters.
I'm still a bit confused on what this will mean for innovative SMEs and potential investors:
- What does Nessi deliver that can be build on ?
- How is this position vs some of the other smart infrastructure initiatives (internet2 ; planetlab or Global Grid Forum etc...) ?
- As a software/service SME how should Nessi influence my strategy ?
- and of course, when was last nessi observed (sorry could not help with this one)...
While all the goals and vision can only be agreed with, it's not obvious how Nessi will influence SME software innovators that are the one who will enable the Lisbon Agenda.
